KINGSTON, NY - Duanesburg School Board President Cecilia Tkacyzk announced today that she will run for the New York State Senate in the 46th district. Tkaczyk (Ka-chick) pointed to her personal and professional experiences as preparation to be a strong advocate for the communities of the newly drawn Senate district.
“My background has prepared me for what is ahead,” Tkaczyk added. “I grew up on a dairy farm and understand hard work. I spent 20 years advocating for affordable housing throughout New York State and saw first-hand the positive impact local economic development efforts make on small communities. And, as a mother and rural school board member, I understand how important schools are to local communities and how vital quality education is to the future of our children.”
The 46th Senate District is a new district created by the legislature and signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo last March. The New District spans across five counties Montgomery, Schenectady, Albany, Greene and Ulster.
“I decided to run because we need representatives to Albany that share the concerns of their communities,” Cecilia Tkaczyk said. “The concerns of the people in the new 46th district are the ones I care passionately about. We must ensure our rural and small city schools have the resources they need to provide our children with quality education that is affordable to local property owners. We must spur local economic development by lifting the minimum wage and supporting local job creation efforts. And, we must empower our communities to protect their air and drinking water from pollution.”
“When I decided where I should announce my candidacy in this district that spans Montgomery, Schenectady, Albany, Greene and Ulster counties, I could think of no other place than New York’s first capitol - Kingston. Despite the expanse of this new district, the more people I speak with throughout this district, the more I realize we all have something in common - a desire to help each other and to make our communities better places to live, work and raise our families.”
