In its first year, New York’s Best Burger Contest generated interest across the state when the New York Beef Industry Council and the New York Beef Producer’s Association asked the simplest of questions, “Who has the best burger?”

The New York Beef Industry Council has identified 10 regional restaurants across the state from Buffalo to Long Island.  Nominations were made between February 1st and March 15th, 2011 by either submitting the nomination form via mail, online or fax.  The Top Ten Regional restaurants were the top vote getters when all the ballots were counted.

“The burger is the All-American classic served in almost every restaurant from the local café to the finest white tablecloth establishments,” says Jean O’Toole, Director of Public Relations & Promotions of NYBIC.  “The burger is the number one sandwich ordered in restaurants, and with that burger creativity has hit an all-time high mixing of flavor profiles to entice taste buds of eager followers!”

The restaurants (and their winning burger), in alphabetical order are: Bistro Tallulah (8oz Angus Burger) in Glens Falls, Dutch Ale House (Bacon, Egg & Cheeseburger) in Saugerties, The Grill at the Dome (Stuffed Banana Pepper Burger) in Tonawanda, McGirk’s Irish Pub (Irish Whiskey Burger) in Binghamton, New World Bistro Bar (Northeast Family Farm Burger) in Albany, Reese’s 1900 (1900 Burger) on Long Island, South Trenton Pub (8 Pointer Burger) in Barneveld, Turning Stone Casino/Emerald Café (Black Jack Burger) in Verona, Wally’s Pub (Wally Burger) in Canandaigua, Westchester Burger Company (Original Burger) in White Plains.

These top ten restaurants will be invited to grill off their burger in front of a panel of judges at the New York State Fair, September 4th at the Chevy Court Stage!  The winner will be named at the fair’s competition and will receive a plaque and a media prize package that will include an on-site live radio broadcast.
