May 30, 2012 at 6 p.m. Saugerties American Legion Post 72 held its annual Memorial Day Services. They had one of the largest turnouts ever.
Past Commander Jim Gage did his usual great job as Master of Ceremonies. The program opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner played by the Saugerties Community Band. Tony Mizel is their conductor and they played throughout the ceremony, doing a wonderful job.
Sons of the Legion Squadron 72 presented scholarships to Kayla Yates, Drew McClain, Nicole Buono and Kirsten Kay. Auxiliary Unit 72 presented scholarships to Christen Averill and Caitlyn Barrett. Congrats to all!
The Poppy Girl, Addison Costello placed a bouquet of poppies at the wall in Roger Donlon Park and Cynthia Babb Rinaldi placed a wreath.
The guest speaker was District Attorney Holley Carnright. Rev Duane Buddle said the closing prayer. Jim Gage thanked all for attending and invited them inside for refreshments and tours of the museum.
