Saugerties  increasingly prominent group of fine artists and artisans joyously announce the tenth year of the Saugerties Artists Studio Tour, which is to be from August 10-12, 2012.  The studios will be open 10-6 on Saturday and Sunday August 11 and 12, and the weekend kicks off with an artists’ reception at Opus 40 Friday,  August 10 from 5-7.
A small group of artists started the tour in the earliest years of this century, a brainchild of the exuberant creativity of the local arts community’s effort to bring art to the public in new ways.   Saugerties was among the first towns in the Hudson Valley to welcome the public to individual art studios.
At first, many artists and collectors did not know how it would work out.   Some people did not expect this weekend-long multi-artist experience to be free.  Others thought it would be hard to find the individual studios.
But these “good problems” have been solved, and now the collecting and viewing public eagerly awaits each year’s free full color map with clear directions to the studios.    Tour visitors now number in the thousands.  The tour now includes access to  40 studios, from the Hudson River to the dreaming forests of a Catskill Mountain August.
The tenth anniversary group of SAT tour artists includes, new to the tour:  Kim Alderman, ceramic sculpture and pottery; Sara Conca, paintings; Shellie Lipton, mixed media art; Robert George, clay and bronze sculpture.
Returning artists are Barbara Bravo, sculptural tiles, handmade pottery; Mikhail Horowitz, collages and linocuts; Carol Zaloom, hand colored linocut prints; Howard Goldson, abstract painting; Susan Sammis Goldson, photography; Ruth Edwy, abstract painting; Polly Law, bricolage; Gus Pedersen, fine handmade furniture; Jeff Schiller, sculpture.
Annick Magac, clean modern industrial aesthetic; Ze’ev Willy Neumann, sculpture; Ellen Perantoni, realistic oil landscape painting;  Hugh Morris, artist; Viorica Stan, mixed media; Marsha Kaufman-Rubinstein, ceramic art; Istar Schwager, collage; Allen Bryan, digitally constructed photography;  Elin Menzies, painting and mixed media.
Jemerick Art Pottery, arts & crafts pottery; Ulf Loven, abstract painting;  Jacquie Roland, paintings and assemblages; Yvette Lewis, abstract paintings of organic forms; Isaac Abrams, abstract paintings; Poli Cecil, paintings, mixed media; Prue See, paintings; Michael Nelson, photography.
Jan Wallen, watercolors; Ana Bergen, photography; Anita Barbour, watercolors. Raymond J. Steiner, impressionist landscape paintings; Sharyn Alexander, ceramic sculpture. Brian Lynch, print making; Jesse Reimer, sculpture; Tad Richards, computer pointillism; Michael Ciccone, sculpture.  .
The Gallery Show at Opus 40, 50 Fite Rd., Saugerties, NY will be Friday, August 10, from 5 to 7 pm at Opus 40.  This will be the start of the tour weekend.  This show has become a Saugerties Art Tour tradition. Attendance, anticipation and merriment at this artists’ reception increases each year.
The Saugerties Historical Society at Kiersted House, 119 Main St., Saugerties  presents the Tenth Saugerties Artists’ Studio tour Anniversary exhibit beginning Saturday, August 4 and runs through Sunday, August 26.  The theme of this exhibit will be “Ten” and it will be interesting to see how each artist embodies this concept.  An artists’ reception will be Saturday, August 4 , from 5 to 7 pm.
On Saturday, September 1, the Kiersted House show will move from The Kiersted House to Café Mezzaluna, 626 Route 212,  about 3 miles west of Saugerties Village.
