The Department of Conservation (DEC) in Albany brought an international group from India to visit the Saugerties Transfer Station for a tour of the facility. The DEC cited the Transfer Station as an example of a good rural recycling program. Marie Post, Transfer Station Manager greeted the guests and presented all in attendance with green hats for the tour. Transfer Station Assistant Manager, Joe Hartrum, led the tour. In attendance for the tour were Town of Saugerties Supervisor Kelly Myers; Town of Saugerties Tourism Chair Marjorie Block; New York DEC Region 3 Member Terry Liabach and Perry Mehta (environmental engineer for NYS DEC); Michelle Bergkamp from Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency; and Caroline Leising, program director for the International Center of the Capital Region. The group from India included Dr. Nishritha Bopana, Science Officer from Indo-US Science and Technology Forum, Dr. K. Vinoth Kumar, Diector of Technology Development of USP Green Energy, Shibani Ghosh, Advocate and Independent Researcher, N.S. Prasad Regional Coordinator for Indian Youth Climate Network, Tina Roy, Manager for Earth Day – India, and Alka Tomar, Director of Programs and Operations for CMS environment.
