Kingston, NY)  The Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $2,500 grant to Girl Scouts – Heart of the Hudson, Inc. to help fund their In School and After School/Summer sessions offering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls in underserved communities.

The Leadership Experience program provides an opportunity for girls to continue participating in Girl Scout programming either during the 2012 school year and/or the summer of 2012.  According to Girl Scouts – Heart of the Hudson, the Experience allows girls to learn about the history of Girl Scouting and its traditions, embrace ethical values, become environmentally aware and develop attitudes and self-understanding that promote healthy living.  The In School, After School and Summer sessions offer opportunities for girls to participate in Girl Scouting who would not normally be able to do so in a typical troop setting.

“For 100 years, the Girl Scouts have helped girls learn invaluable independent thinking, leadership and interpersonal skills,” said Michael Kelley, Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation Executive Director and Ulster Saving Bank Senior Vice President / Ulster Insurance Services and Ulster Financial Group.  “We’re pleased to support their efforts to enrich the lives of girls in our community.”

“The long-term benefits realized through programs provided by the Girl Scouts are tremendous,” noted Lisa M. Cathie, President and CEO of Ulster Savings Bank.  “The skills and good habits they learn through Scouting will help them in their academics, future employment and beyond.”
