John E. VanWart, 62, of Cashanacur Drive, NASHVILLE, GA and formerly of West Bridge St. in Saugerties died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA.   Born January 28, 1950 in Saugerties he was the son of Doris Legg VanWart and the late Floyd VanWart.  A Graduate of Saugerties High School Class of 1968, he was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving in the US Navy Seabees.   Active in the Saugerties Community, he was a member of the CA Lynch Fire Co. where he served as the President for many years and was a member of the Saugerties American Legion Post.   He was a Commander of the Saugerties Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post 5034 from 1984-1985, a White Hat Commander for Post 5034 from 1985-1986, and also served as a White Hat Commander for Ulster County Veterans of Foreign Wars serving on the All State Team of County Council Commanders from 1987-1988 .   He was the manager for the Great American Sparks Girls Softball team.  John's love for his God, family and country never faltered, and his passion for living life to the fullest never failed. He was an avid NY Yankee/Giants fan, loved fishing, hunting, boating, and gardening with his grandchildren.  Besides his mother of Mt. Marion, survivors include the love of his life wife of 41 years, the former Patricia Young, three daughters, Jessica and her husband, Christopher Sullens of Nashville GA, Wendy and her husband Michael Craig of Ft. Wayne IN, and Tracy and her husband Joshua Zurenda of Portsmouth, VA.,  one sister, Debbie Tome of Mt. Marion and one brother, Thomas VanWart of Kingston,  six grandchildren, Justin and Johnathon Navas, Alexa Sullens, Dominique and Anthony Crudup and Sadie Craig.   Several nieces, nephews, cousins, his favorite kitties Lucky and Duke, and his best friend and cousin Paul Legg also survive.
His Funeral Service was held  Tuesday, August 21 at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests  donations be made to the Zachary Swart family through the Mid Hudson Federal Credit Union at 3180 Route 9W Saugerties, NY 12477 or to the Morgan Finch Foundation at 174A Market Street Saugerties, NY 12477.    Expressions of condolence may be shared on John’s memory page @www.seamonwilseyfuneralhome.com
