John V. Murray, Sr., 72 of the Birches, Saugerties died Monday May 21, 2012 at the Kingston Hospital with his family by his side. Born in East Kingston on October 9, 1939 he was the son of the late Walter and Lulu (Jamieson) Murray.
John was the owner of J&D&R Recycling. He previously worked for Utility Platers in Kingston and Peterson's Marine in New Jersey. He enjoyed fishing, raising chickens and pigs and especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving longtime companion and fiancé, Rachel Verdon of Saugerties; sons, John Murray of Tillson and Donald Murray of Saugerties; step children, Eric Verdon and Deborah Ostling, sisters, Elizabeth Rinaldo, Mary McCord and Colleen Keane; brother, Robert Paul Murray. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
His wife, Gene Murray, a daughter Stephanie Murray, brothers Joseph, Walter and Donald Murray and sisters Rose Rutledge and Donna Rougier all died previously.
Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue. www.jvleahyfh.com. A funeral service will be held Thursday 1p.m. at the funeral home.
