This is a continuation of a letter I wrote a couple of week’s ago. If you recall I wrote about my dealings with the Vice-President of the STA (Saugerties Teachers Association). He gave me a song and dance when I asked him how much he paid for benefits. Would you believe we’re paying him $1500 for not taking benefits? He is covered by his wife, who also teaches here and takes family coverage. I also had a concern when a board of education member’s wife, a part time typist, was elevated to full time with benefits. The Board member implied that I didn’t know what I was talking about. Fact, his wife earns approximately $36,000 in salary and also an additional $16,490 in benefits. A lot of people in Saugerties are losing their jobs, also on pensions that will not stretch any further. These are a couple of reasons you must get out to vote and vote “No” to the proposed budget unless it is lowered considerably.
