The Big Give Supports Local Charities

On a beautiful sunny, Saturday morning in October, The Saugerties Junior High School Builder’s Club set up for their annual Big Give. The Builder’s Club, run by Hope Antonelli, is a volunteer organization. It is based on the Kiwanis International Model of service. The club boasts over 50 members, and is the largest in The Junior High School. It was started nearly 14 years ago. Since then, they have been giving to their community with funds raised from bake sales, collecting food for the local pantries, collecting gifts for local needy children etc. When Mr. Averill came to this district, he thought of a large fundraiser modeled after Oprah Winifry’s. They started small, choosing a worthy charity every year, now they are raising over $1000.00 for the charity that has been designated. This year the Big Give has special meaning because it was for The Wounded Warriors Project. That is close to their hearts because a former student, Alex Wilson, is a Wounded Warrior. He lost his leg in a bombing in Iraq. So, The Big Give was done in his honor this year. He is a hero who continues to give, run marathons, and helps those in need. It was also done in Alex’s mother’s memory. She is also a warrior, who battled Cancer for many years and succumbed to that battle last year. Thanks to all who contributed, especially the Shane Geisler Foundation.
